If you have a torch and a clamp you can bend your own.
I use 3/8" 316 stainless roundstock.
For the handle i glue on 3/8" gas line like for a car (Goop or Omni-stick glue works best) than I put a shrink on golf club handle over the gas line it takes like 3 days for the handle to shrink on but after it "drys" it looks professional and it won't come off.
This makes a great field hook as it wont break and you would have to try hard to bend it. But one the down side they are heavier than the average hook.
Keep in mind that if you dont heat the metal enough when you bend it will fracture and break.
Also it takes roughly 10" to make the "curve" depending on the size and shape. I use the half triangle shape.

I LOVE my Midwest Tongs. Awesome pieces of equipment!
I have a buddy that bends lengths of 1/8" and 1/4" steel roundbar into shape and fits them with natural wooden handles he sands and finsihes. These are my hooks of choice for road cruising and in the snake room. I have some available for sale at my website. $25 for a 24-30" hook is a fair price, IMO...

I made my hook from an old broomstick "free from a dumpster" and a thick welding rod "Free from job site, all the good stuff was chipped off" I took the rest of the stuff off the welding rod, drilled a hole in the end of the broomstick of proper size, lightly taped the rod into the stick then secured a proper size hose clamp on the end of the stick to hold the rod tight. Out in the field the hook works awesome. There is noway it will hold a large snake but I have no problem with 4' Rattle Snakes, king, gopher so on and so forth. As far as my tongs go at a local cheep store I purchased a deal meant to pick up trash. Its made from aluminum with a plastic handle and plastic "grabber" It has rubber and foam on the grabber and a linkage that allows you to hold a snake tight but not to tight.

Almost forgot, One the rod is secured into the stick you can bend it to suite your purpose. I bend the end of the hook a little bit in to facilitate hanging the hook on the wall when I get home.

Making snake hooks
A golf club is the best bet. You can purchase very cheap stainless steel golf clubs which are not much good for golf. Cut the head of and get a suitable size blunt hook welded to the end. I have two and they are as good as any hooks you can buy and a lot less expensive.

Making snake grabbers
Does anyone have any simple design for making a serviceable snake grabber. I live in Sri Lanka they are not available here. The parcel service is unreliable so am not happy receiving anything through the post!!

Hook for under 5 bucks.
Honestly, if you are just needing a hook, get a large toilet plunger or round wooden dowel...then go to the Hardware section of Wal-Mart and buy one of those rubber coated hooks that are used to screw into closet walls or workbenches.
It usually cost around 5 bucks for both.
Screw the hook into the wooden dowel, then as a precaution against splitting, duck take the end of it. I personally ran duck tape up the entire length for better grip and water protection.
I will suggest too, that you make a couple of these depending on the snake you have. For instance, I would use one with black tape if the snake is light colored. On the other hand, using one with black tape is a bad idea if your snake is black. I would never think to use a black one when dealing with a mangrove as it doesn't provide contrast.
Hope this helps a bit.
Aloha,
EW
