What species of fire bellied toad is my pet?

I have been confused by its brown coloration, and bumpy skin. Everyone says that it's not a normal oriental fire bellied toad, because it's skin is brown. Could it be a european fire bellied toad, it has small white dots, which I heard europeans have.

Here is his picture.

I would say that is definatly a fire bellied, and it just has some interesting marks. But if you want, you should ask some more people.

What temp do you keep him at?
They typically change colors with light / heat and surroundings.. They darken to brown colors when stressed.

Around 78 degrees. He has been around the same temp for 2 years, and have never seen him anything but brown. He was brown at the pet store, but all the others were green. Hmmm...

Well, after looking at the pic a few more times, it definitely looks like you have a very dark Oriental. I would say it would be a European Toad, but from the looks of it, the "dots" and "formations" on the back aren't the same.

Can you maybe get a picture of his back?

A bit blurry, but I would go with an Oriental.

Its probably a Bombina orientalis or Oriental Fire-Bellied Toad, some condition in the tank is stressing him out and is causing him to change his color. You could try some beta carotene or try warming him up a bit, or even getting a friend for him.

Oriental

That is an Oriental Fire Bellied Toad. It is that color because it is the Russian veriety. While the Korean veriety has a bright green back. Pet stores usualy don't know the difference and have only run accross one breeder on the net that bothered to explain the difference or sell them seperatly.
