Veiled Enclosure

I am getting a veiled within a week. I want to know if a Apogee Reptatrium 65 gallon screen cgae is big enough for its entire life. Or should I get the 100 gallon screen cage? Please get back to me. Either reply here or email me at robfish353@yahoo.com.

Reptariums = Ick

I wouldn't get one of those zipper cage things. If I were you, i would get a screened enclosure. I believe most people have a 48X24X24 cage for their veileds. It also depends on the size of the veiled when you get it. the above cage is MUCH to big for a baby. two websites to checkout are

www.lllreptile.com
www.exoticlizards.com

These two have great screened cages for great prices... hope it helps!

Which cage do you recommend? LLL Reptile has a package with a veiled baby and a 65 galon screen cage with all the other things I need like lighting and branches? Is it a good deal? Heres the link...

What do you suggest as a first cage for a baby and a lifetime cage for an adult?

don't buy a package it's a rip. how big of a "baby" or how old is it? if it's a tiny baby i would recommend a glass aquarium for the first month or so this way u can monitor how it eats and drinks. after that though strictly screen, don't get the reptarium - yes they're tempting- but it definitely won't be a cage for life. they tear easily and are hard to see thru. after the baby stage i recommend a medium size screen enclosure until it's say 4 months old -about 24 inches or so tall. after that ur gonna want to go at least 48 tall - this will be the cage for life. save all old cages for future chams or sunning cages etc.

The baby is between 4-6". The package comes with a 65g reptarium. This isnt good for a baby? I will then buy a bigger and better screen cage for its life long home. Please give me your opinion on what to buy and when.

baby cage: 4-6 inches from head to end of his tail right? well when a baby cham is that tiny u really need to be careful. in a huge cage it has a really hard time finding it's food. so for JUST the first 6-8 weeks u have it i would just use a 10-20 gallon aquarium w/ a screen top. now MAKE SURE u buy a thermometer and a humidity guage u can stick to the glass. u do not want the thing overheating on u. with the aquarium u can monitor his eating, and keep him well misted. make sure u dry any water at the bottom of the cage. make sure u have some vines and all appropriate lights etc. once he is established in say 6-8 weeks move up to the next size cage. (now if ur saying he is 4-6 inches without his tail just skip to the next step). save this cage, they are excellent for keeping ur crix in.

middle (teenage LOL!) cage: after 6-8 weeks i would step up to a larger cage, now that he is established we want to go with a screen enclosure. again this will be TEMPORARY so u don't have to spend the bank! i would recommend at this stage one of those "fresh air habitats" by esu about 24wide x18deep x 26 tall. they are fairly cheap, but in this case u may find something just as good (another brand etc.) for cheaper (again stay away from the reptariums). ur going to need more vines, some small live plants, stronger basking bulbs etc. etc. ALWAYS have thermometers, temperatures with chams are critical. i would house him in this till he hits around 5 months of age. they grow fast. save this cage, they're nice to put him in to take out to get a little sun, and since he's a veiled (mean bastards) a good way to give him a shower. plus if u get another cham later u already have everything!

old man (er lady) cage: once he's about 5 months- this is the one that we can use for life, barring an accident (tearing etc.). u want to go as TALL as possible or practical. i would recommend the 24wx24dx48TALL (all screen of course). this is actually a pretty HUGE cage. again ur gonna need more vines etc.

w/ all these i recommend putting them on top of some kind of stand. an old night stand whatever. u want the very top of the cage to be above ur head when ur standing next to it. this lets them get up above u giving them a sense of security. my cage is 48 tall, but since it's on an old stand, the top of the cage is about 7 feet off the ground. it doesn't need to be that high when he's in the small aquarium (but higher is better), but when u get the middle one u want it to be higher and then the final cage even higher.

hope that helps some!
