P. laticaudas in groups?
Does anyone have experience with P. laticaudas in groups? I FINALLY got a hold of another wild caught P. laticauda and every attempt and getting in acclimated with my first wild caught one has been unsuccessful. I took both geckos out of the cage, rearranged all of the furniture, and placed them back at the same time after 8 hours with no success. I ended up purchasing another Reptarium just for the second wild caught gecko. I think it's a bit too early to tell but the second wild caught appears to be a female since the underside looks exactly like the first wild caught.

We keep ours in groups, but only with 1 male per cage. What you are looking for on the undersides are pores, similar to a leopard gecko, I am sure someone has a photo of this.
When you say they arent acclimating to eachother, what do you mean? They will more than likely fight and carry on for a while, establishing dominance, same as many animals.

I am pretty sure you can keep Golden Dust Day Geckos together. Im not 100% sure, but they should be fine. But if they are fighting, you made the right decision, and bought another cage.

Hi Leah,
In your experience, roughly how long does it take for your P. laticaudas to stop fighting? I really don't want to have to set up another cage (38 gallon Reptarium) as I'd rather have them in the current 175 gallon Reptarium that is completely furnished.
Thanks!

Ours only had conflicts for about a week, and they are in a much smaller enclosure than your gecko palace ... are you sure of the genders? Housing them side by side may ease an introduction once they realize they HAVE to share the same territory.. just a thought.

Hi Leah,
I'm not sure what the gender is of the latest WC P. laticauda. I couldn't tell from the first one (Madi) until that one day where she dropped a dud egg on the floor of the cage. I looked at the underside of the latest WC and it looks the same as Madi's so I'm suspecting it is a female as well. What do you mean by housing them side-by-side? Do you mean in separate cages but next to each other? If things don't settle down by this weekend, I was planning on setting up the smaller 38-gallon Reptarium and housing the latest WC in there and placing it next to the 138-gallon or better yet, maybe placing the smaller cage into the larger one. I was thinking this may cause problems but I guess it's pretty much like keeping the cages next to each other, no? I promise to post some pics of everything soon, I know I've been slacking on getting the pics to you! Thanks once again for all of your help!

Hi Leah,
What do you think is the best way to re-introduce the two P. laticaudas after say a couple of weeks being separated? As I mentioned earlier, I invested in a couple of new Reptariums (Hawaii doesn't carry them anywhere, booooo!). I purchased a 38-g as a quarantine cage for any WCs and I got another 175-g that I was planning to use as a new cage for reintroducing the two. I noticed that even when I changed all the plants around in the cage, Madi (first WC) knew automatically which was her plants again. Would it be necessary to purchase completely new plants? Over the weekend, I even took all of the plants out and left the two alone in the huge 175-g and Madi still did her territorial dispute displays (lashing of the tongue and lifting her backside of her tail like she was in heat). Do geckos know the opposite sex? Could it be possible that the second WC is a juvi male and just stressed out after being caught and not ready to mate? Madi is a real b*tch, she'll chase the 2nd WC all over the place. She normally sleeps in the corn plant that is sheltered from rain but she'll claim stake in three of the other plants in the cage. VERY FRUSTRATING! Okay, enough ranting for now.....we'll see how it goes. I'll give it till the weekend to see if they can get along with each other. Thanks once again for sharing your experiences!

I think sitting them side by side would be better than one in the other's cage - it may not work though They may still need relationship counseling, which I hear is spendy in Hawaii. They do know the opposite sex, and you may well have a juvenile male, I cant think of any other reason she would be so upset quite honestly! Maybe adding plants would help, maybe not... (I'm SO helpful, I know..)
