Do you already have boxies? I'm not from the US, but it is my understanding that any laws banning sales/ownership do not affect current owners (they won't make you get rid of what you have but you may have to get a permit).

well this is what i did to find out the reptile keeping laws in alberta, canada are... and they suck by the way.
anyway, all i did was go to a locally owned and run reptile forum and asked if they had any information on it. surely enough i found a topic that showed every species (common name and latin name) that was illegal to own without permits.
unfortunatly thats a good few thousand in alberta... damn u government!

Evil turtle-- it is true that in some states there is requirement to own box turtles. some you absolute cannot own them, other states require you to have a permit.
however they cannot outlaw them or take them from you as you're a current owner. but it could come down to the requirement of needing a permit to own them.
do some research, call your local fish and game they will know.

as of the end of this year. it will be illegal to capture and sell WC individuals anywhere in the U.S.
they are going on the protected species list ( not sure about every box turtle species though).
you may be able to still purchase CB babies, though they will ultimately demand a much higher price as to what they are being sold at now.
the department of fish and game in Idaho has sent out letters to every pet store informing them of the changing law.
